This year’s 4th of July community celebration will be an outstanding fireworks display sponsored jointly by The Lake Forest Symphony and The City of Lake Forest. The Lake Forest Symphony board of directors has elected to not present a Concert on the Green this year, but is pleased to continue its fireworks tradition in collaboration with The City of Lake Forest. Residents are encouraged to come to Deerpath Community Park with family and friends to enjoy the expanded display scheduled from 9:15 to 9:45 p.m. The park is located adjacent to the Recreation Center on Hastings Road behind the Deer Path Schools. Parking will open at 8:00 p.m.
Lake Forest Symphony, named the Illinois Professional Orchestra of the Year for 2006, first performed at the community’s 4th of July celebration in 1976. The celebrations have always featured a musical program followed by a fireworks display accompanying Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. Cannons from Great Lakes Naval Station have also been featured in the finale. Over the years, the entertainment has included The Lake Forest Symphony Orchestra, The Lake Forest Symphony Concert Band, The Special Consensus, The Great Lakes Navy Band, Chicago Brass Band, and The New Traditions. The Symphony and its donors have paid for the fireworks and music for the past 26 years.
